Setting up your staff’s future
When you have employees, you’re likely to be paying towards a pension scheme. This will be a set percentage paid by you, as well as a figure paid by the employee. But, because only certain employees will be eligible for auto-enrolment, the process can be confusing.
Our pensions auto-enrolment team will be on hand to help you understand who will and won’t be eligible for auto-enrolment. Pension contributions are a legal requirement, so you want to make sure you’re getting it right.
If an employee is over the age of 22 and earns over £10,000 a year, they’ll be automatically enrolled in a workplace pension scheme. This will still be the case even if they are on a short-term contract or on maternity leave.
There’s a minimum amount that has to be contributed by you, the employee and the Government (in the form of tax relief). As an employer, the minimum you’ll contribute is 3%, with 5% coming from the member of staff.
If your employee earns less than £10,000 a year, but above £6,240, you’ll not be required to automatically enrol them into the scheme. If they ask to join though, you can’t refuse and must make contributions for them.
